SETTING UP A GOAL

What is a goal:  A goal is the desire to achieve or aim at something you foresee or dream of in the far future. According to dictonary.com, a goal is an objective or target that someone is trying to reach or achieve. This is something you're ready towards achieving them.

There are basically two (2) types of goal which are: Short term goal and Long term goal.

Short term goal: A short term goal is a breakdown of achievement points you tend to aim at in order to get higher. Short term goal can be setting up a goal to get A's in every semester or setting up a goal to get a particular GP(Grade Point) in a semester or session.

Long term goal: long term goals come later in the future after successfully achieving your short term goal. You can also decide to break them down into smaller short term goals. Like they say, a journey of a thousand miles  begins with a single step, so also with a short term goal you can soar high to attain your long term goals. For example, you can set up a main long term goal of graduating with a CGP (cumulative grade point) of 4.65, before you can attain that, we all know you ought to work hard towards achieving this, therefore, you have to create a short term goal of  having an average GPA of 4.86 or higher each semester before aiming for your long term goal of 4.65.

Lets take a look at a very popular artist who set up his goal and took a stand towards achieving them.

Bruce lee: Bruce lee is a famous martial artist and movie star. This is what he wrote in 1969

“I, Bruce Lee, will be the first highest paid Oriental super star in the United States. In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor. Starting 1970 I will achieve world fame and from then onward till the end of 1980 I will have in my possession $10,000,000. I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.”

Bruce Lee – Jan. 1969

By age 32, Bruce Lee achieved all his carrier goals. Do you see the power of a Goal?

5 Helpful Holiday Tips

You might be happy as well the semester is over and probably thinking of what to do at Home, well, i've got some tips for you. Here are 5 productive things you can engage on during the semester break.

1. Reflect on what you've gone through: Write down what you don't understand during the previous semester in a short note. This will help you know your weakness and since you have enough time, you can go through them at home or better still, find a tutor who will take you the course/subject.

2. Set up a goal for the next semester: Your next step should be setting up a goal. What do you think of achieving? what are your aims and plan of reaching there?. this should be the questions you ask yourself. A goal will help you prepare well for the next session/semester.

3. Read helpful contents or articles: Instead of spending all day on social media, you can devote 2 to 3 hours reading articles related to your course of study. Read biographies of successful men and women who contributed in achieving their aim(goals). You can decide to read about Albert Einstein or Blaise Pascal to see how they contributed in making life easier.

4. Watch Youtube tutorials videos: This is another great way to learn. I find it easy picking up difficult courses by simply watching tutorials/videos of the related course. You can choose to watch step by step method of solving an equation say 'Quadratic Equation'.

5. Learn a skill: This is the perfect time to improve yourself in skills acquisition. Look for a skill to learn, it could be knitting, cooking, drawing, reading and so on. There are a lot of skills to pick up from out there as they'll help you in self reliance and becoming someone better in the years to come.
